JTB Ranks AKIRS High On Tax Collection

M

Akwa Ibom State moves to 8th position in IGR table of the 36 States plus the Federal Capital Territory in Q1 from the 12th position as at End of last year.

This new height was announced during the just concluded 141st Meeting of Joint Tax Board that was held in Enugu State.

Moving from 12th to 8th position barely a year after the inauguration of the Pioneer Board, it is evident that the Revenue and Institutional Transformation Agenda (REVITA) initiated by the Board under the Leadership of Mr. Okon Okon, the Executive Chairman of the service, has recorded laudable achievements.

This further confirms the accolade the Board received recently from the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during the Quarterly Performance Review of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

The numerous activities of the board through the automation of Road Taxes and customization of licenses/supporting receipt, automation of tax administration and payment system, engagement with stakeholders of the sector, introduction of e-payment channels and stoppage of payment by cash, tax education and awareness campaign, capacity building and human resources development, provision of work tools to enhance work capacity, special tax audit and investigations amongst others have translated towards the growth of the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The Revenue boss has reiterated that the Board will record more progress by initiating taxation best practices that would grow the IGR of the State to reflect her true potentials and compete favourably with leading revenue states in Nigeria.
