AKIRS Intervenes On Multiple Taxes On Traders

AKIRS promises to eliminate multiple taxes on traders. This was stated by the Executive Chairman AKIRS, Mr. Okon Okon, in a meeting with leaders of market traders across the state.

This is part of the ongoing engagement with stakeholders of AKIRS in a bid to enlarge the tax net. The meeting held on the 4th of February, 2021.

According to the Executive Chairman, it has been observed that, AKIRS has not yet fully captured informal sector in their tax net and such effort requires stakeholders’ engagement.

Mr. Okon also informed the traders that the taxes that would be collected by AKIRS is personal income tax, which will further enable government provide and improve upon the basic amenities and better the life for the citizens of Akwa Ibom State which is the priority of his Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration.

The Chief Revenue Officer of the state further said that this collaboration with the market trader and other association will bring sanity in terms of multiple taxation/revenue collection.

The leader of the team, Akparawa Idoreyin Raphael- S.A to the Governor on Trade Matters and President of Traders association, thanked the Governor- His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for making good use of tax payers’ money by providing an enabling environment for business to strive and other laudable projects in the state. He promised to support AKIRS to ensure that the said revenue will be remitted to the state IGR account from now henceforth.

Furthermore, the market leaders thanked the Executive Chairman of Internal Revenue service and their team for inviting them for the meeting which is the first ever in twenty years and promised to work hand in hand with AKIRS for revenue generation.
