AKIRS CHAIRMAN LAUDS GOVERNOR ENO FOR SETTING UP ASSET MANAGEMENT AGENCY

M

The Executive Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS), Sir Okon Okon, has lauded Governor Umo Eno for setting up the Akwa Ibom State Infrastructure and Assets Management and Maintenance Agency(AKIAMMA).

Okon said the Agency will help take care of major maintenance and security needs around government-owned facilities, thus guaranteeing their integrity and safety.

Sir Okon stated this on Tuesday when he received the agency's Executive Chairman and management team at Revenue House, Uyo, on a courtesy call.

He implored the Agency to collaborate with MDAs especially with the Ministry of Internal Security to provide optimal security for public assets and holistically address the maintenance needs of some revenue-generating assets of the state to optimize its value.

“If we want to maintain the State Government's assets, there must be security around them. You need to collaborate with the Ministry of Internal Security to defend and protect these assets".

"Our lands and buildings, including office accommodations, are in dire need of maintenance, which exceeds our current resources and mandate. This should start with the state secretariat offices.”

Sir Okon called on the Agency to facilitate basic safety programmes for personnel working in government offices.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Infrastructure and Assets Management and Maintenance Agency, Elder Udo Umoatan, said the Agency is tasked with preserving and managing government assets, including maintaining the workforce.

He noted that without proper management of human resources, the physical assets would not be adequately maintained.

Prof. Comfort Etok, a member of the Agency, highlighted the government's commitment to prioritizing the health and safety of workers, as well as providing training on fire emergencies.

In a vote of thanks, the Executive Director of Accounts and Finance at AKIRS, Elder Nse Atang, expressed gratitude to Akwa Ibom State Government for inaugurating the Agency, expressing optimism that they will deliver on the enormous responsibility.
